The Mandalorian is expanding across the galaxy.
On Saturday, executive producers of The Mandalorian, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, took to stage at Star Wars Celebration for “Mando+,” a panel discussion about the future of the hit Disney+ series “Star Wars,” as well as its spin-off “The Book” from Boba Fett” and the upcoming “Ahsoka”.
Joining them on stage at the Anaheim Convention Center was a real bonus from guest stars, including “The Mandalorian” himself, Pedro Pascal, husbands Brendan Wayne and Latef Crowder, longtime series director Rick Famuyiwa and recurring cast members Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Withers, Emily Swallow and Katie Sackoff. Also in attendance were “The Book of Boba Fett” head Timuera Morrison and upcoming “Ahsoka” stars Rosario Dawson and Natasha Leo Bordizzo. The star-studded group has spoken out about joining the universe of “Star Wars”, and while remaining silent about plot details, it stirred up disturbing events in the expanding universe of “The Mandalorian.”

New footage sparks a battle between Mando and Mandalorians
During the panel, fans received a bonus of first-look teasers from the upcoming third season. Although Filoni and Favreau said the footage would be similar to what was shown from Thursday’s Lucasfilm show, the new footage was actually much longer. As the same began, confirming Weathers’ re-emergence as Greef Karga for the series, the extended footage shows a character telling Grogu ominously, “You don’t think your father is the only Mandalorian, do you?”
Next, the trailer shows Dean Garen, or “Mando” (Pascal) fighting other Mandalorian warriors. The joke ends with Mando and Grogu flying to the planet Mandalore, where Mando intends to restore his honor by visiting the “living waters” beneath the mines on the planet.
Bo-Katan Kryze will play a major role in Season 3
The teaser clips for the third season showed a lead role of Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan Kyrze. Originally made for the Clone Wars series, Kattan is a Mandalorian warrior who seeks the Darksaber, a weapon currently held by Mandu, making her the rightful heir to the rule of Mandalore. After debuting in the show’s second season, season three “The Mandalorian” sees Sackhoff as the main hostile force hunting Mando and Grogu for the Darksaber. On the panel, although she didn’t reveal new plot details, Sackhoff spoke about how important the character of Bo-Katan was to her, and how important it was to move forward in “The Mandalorian.”
“My father raised me on science fiction, and he raised me on strong characters, and when I was young we didn’t have a lot of strong female characters to discuss,” said Sackoff. “Being able to play the women I have played throughout my career has been a gift, strong women continue to introduce themselves to me… and the fact that they trusted me to bring [Bo-Katan] To live action, I’m hardening myself.”
Rick Famuyiwa has been promoted to Executive Producer
Although the Mando crew have remained silent about what will happen when the show begins its third season, Favreau did deliver some behind-the-scenes news: Famuyiwa, who has directed three episodes of the series in the past, has been promoted. To executive producer from now on. When asked how he was feeling, Famoiwa joked that he was learning the news now, but earnestly expressed his enthusiasm to help guide the creative world of The Mandalorian.
“It has always been my dream, to tell stories in this world, this universe, this galaxy,” Famoiwa told the audience.
When asked if he could say anything about season three, Famoiwa, in response, shouted “No.”
“That’s why you’re a producer Rick,” Favreau said sarcastically.
Star Wars animation for live action pipeline
Ahsoka Tano, who was originally a cartoon character played by Ashley Eckstein, has become one of the superstars of the “Star Wars” universe, with Rosario Dawson portraying the character in her first live-action appearance in the second season of “The Mandalorian”, Filmed by Dawson. And she’s not the only “Star Wars” animated character to move into live action.
During the session, fans received a very early climax for “Ahsoka”, which is currently filming and scheduled to premiere on Disney+ next year. Although the teaser is short, it is confirmed that Bordizzo will appear in the series as Sabine, who originally starred alongside Ahsoka in the “Star Wars Rebels” animated series. The trailer also featured droid Chopper’s “Rebels,” and ended with a photo of Ahsoka peeking at the art of the main cast from the animated series — teasing that fan-favorite characters like Ezra, Hera, and Kanan might appear on the live-action show.
The panel also featured a surprise guest appearance from Chopper, in which Dawson directed the friendly robot to meet the audience. After the sneak peak footage, Bordizzo joined the panel to discuss resurrecting the famous Mandalorian warrior Sabine.
“I know how important Sabine is to a lot of people, and watching ‘Rebels’ has come to mean a lot to me too,” Bordizzo said. “So I think you guys are going to be really excited about the trip I’m about to take.”
Looks like the “Boba Fett Book” is closed
One of the committee’s most enthusiastic members was Morrison, making his grand entrance on stage with a traditional Haka Maori and receiving a standing ovation from the audience. But, while fans were treated to footage from “The Mandalorian” and “Ahsoka,” there were no teasers or references to a possible season 2 of “The Book of Boba Fett.”
While Morrison – who also portrayed Django’s father Fate in “Episode Two: Attack of the Clones,” a movie Celebrated its twentieth anniversary with a special painting Friday – has the ability to appear in many different time periods and corners of the Star Wars galaxy, and there has been no confirmation that the character will appear in Season 3 of “The Mandalorian” or “Ahsoka”, nor does it spark any excitement for future projects. Instead, Morrison spent his time on stage thanking fans for their support of “Boba Fett,” telling them that Ming Na Win – who co-led the series as lead assassin and mercenary Vink Shand – is sending her love. The actor announced via Twitter Earlier on Saturday, she tested positive for COVID and will not be able to attend the celebration.
After the commission, though, Morrison spoke diverse Senior culture and events editor Mark Malkin on the red carpet admitted he doesn’t know what’s next for the bounty hunter.
“No official word yet. They pictured it like it could just be a nice book and we read the book,” Morrison explained. “Otherwise, we could write another book. And I still miss the man with the pen… I got close to there, but he kept disappearing from me, so I’m going to ask them what they have in mind because it’s out of my control.”
There is no ‘Mandalorian’ without Grogu
Of course, no conversation about “The Mandalorian” would be complete without a special appearance from the little green man himself. Grogu was the last surprise guest during the hour-and-a-half panel, joining the group for a Mando family photo shoot where the conversation ended, moderated by Ash Crossan of ScreenRant.
The third season of “The Mandalorian” will begin in February 2023, with “Ahsoka” to follow later next year.
